Edwin Vose Sumner was a Union Army general during the American Civil War who commanded the II Corps during the Seven Days Battles. His troops crossed the swollen Chickahominy River during the Battle of the Seven Pines (31 May-1 June 1862) providing essential reinforcement to the Union forces and winning him the breven of major general.
