It is not clear which Government House is referred to re this picture. Various buildings were referred to as 'Government House' in Wellington and Auckland. Yet, Wellington is assumed to be the subject because the artist painted the Houses of Parliament in Wellington in the same year as this painting. Wellington's Second Government House was built in 1868 and served until 1907.
