Description

This drawing shows the Tron Church, which is located on the Royal Mile, at the junction with North and South Bridges. The name of the artist is not included. It may depict the rebuilding work after both side aisles were removed between 1785 and 1787 during the building of the South Bridge. Named after a salt-tron, which was a public weighing beam, King Charles I founded the Tron Kirk in 1637. The original wooden spire burnt down in 1824, and the church itself closed in 1952, though the building remains open as tourist attraction.
