Inscribed lower left: From Sandpit Gate June 23. 1872. Queen Victoria visited the Sandpit Gate with her daughter Princess Beatrice on 23 June 1872. In her journal entry of that day, Queen Victoria describes how while there "we had our tea & I sketched".
