Description

Watercolour over pencil heightened with bodycolour and stopping out. Fripp was a Bristol artist, the grandson of Nicholas Pocock, and was taught to paint by James Baker Pyne and Samuel Jackson. He visited Italy with William James Muller in 1834 and moved to London in 1838. His tighter early works are generally considered is best.

This is likely to be the watercolour exhibited at the Society of Painters in Watercolours, 1841, no. 72 as `Stapleton Mill, near Bristol’.
