Description
This drawing, dates from 15th September 1814, is unsigned by the artist, and it appears likely that this is one of George Henry Hutton's own works. Beneath the title and date, a note, apparently by Hutton, reads, 'B. a little footbridge. Put a female at the right side loading clothes in a tub'. The first part of the note explains an annotation on the drawing. The second part appears to be a suggested addition for a more finished drawing of the scene. Fowlis Easter is a hamlet in the Sidlaw Hills, several miles north-west of Dundee. Its first church dated from 1142, and in 1452-3 Sir Andrew, first Lord Gray, built the collegiate church depicted in this drawing on the same site. It remains intact, and is one of the best preserved fifteenth-century churches in Scotland.
