Description

Main gateway to Akbar's tomb at Sikandra; single-page tinted drawing on a detached album folio. The painting shows the gateway on a plinth of red sandstone and the main entrance gate, on the south side of the square building. The gateway is surrounded by an arch decorated with painted stucco, inlay and mosaic creating geometric and floral patterns. This detailing is continued across the whole façade of the building, which is flanked by two-story wings with alcoves and domed pavilions. On the four corners of the building are white minarets with three tiers. Painting framed by a thick black line. Ink and watercolour on paper.
