Inscribed in purple and blue watercolour, l.l.: 'Owen Staples' 1910. JRR printed caption has letterpress: THE THIRD SERVOS GRIST MILL / Palatine Hill, Niagara Township, Lincoln County, Ont. / Built in 1820 by Col. John D. Servos, son of Major Daniel Servos. / The second mill was burned during the bombardment of Niagara, 1813, and some of the / charred timbers from the second mill are to be seen in this building, 1910.
