Description

Watercolour painting on paper of the interior of the mausoleum of I'timad al-Daula at Agra. The painting shows the cenotaphs of I'timad al-Daula and his wife in the centre of the composition. The floor surrounding the cenotaphs is laid out in a geometric pattern of black and white. The walls are decorated with floral and geometric patterns created through marble inlay, stucco work, mosaic and painting. The roof above the cenotaphs is decorated with niches and alcoves, painted with floral patterns and geometric patterns that create a jewel like appearance. Lattice work is also shown over the windows. The mausoleum was built for I'timad al-Daula by his daughter Nur Jahan, wife of Jahangir.
