Description
Watercolour painting on paper of five sealing ships in St. John's, Newfoundland, The Narrows are at left; all steam/sail vessels display the red ensign and house flag; all vessels are weither Barque or barquentine rigged; Neptune and Nimrod have decks filled with crew and dories; painted by F. Rogers, c.1900. The vessels Nimrod, Hector & Neptune were all owned by Bob bros. (The Avalon Steamship co.). Kite and Avalon were owned by Bowring bros.
Inscription
Signed lower left corner: " F. Rogers." Names of vessels (Kite, Neptune, Hector, Nimrod, Aurora) printed on mat beneath watercolour.
