Description

An encampment of the Royal Engineer Divisions in the Bois de Boulogne, near Paris, after the Battle of Waterloo, sheet inserted in a sketch-book; with soldiers encircling a camp fire at left and others guarding the walled entrance to the camp beyond, with wagons and tents just visible. 1815. Watercolour, touched with bodycolour, over graphite. Verso: A soldier carrying a rifle with bayonet, standing in profile to right. Graphite.
