Description

Watercolour illustration commissioned by William Roxburgh. ROX1968.
In his 'Flora Indica', Roxburgh describes this species as 'A native of China &c.' According to Roxburgh, in the Botanic garden at Calcutta, this plant flowers during the hot season, and quickly becomes a beautiful, large and useful timber tree. He also notes: 'Its flowers are like those of the 'Lilac', and are sweetly fragrant.'
