Description

The main subject of this image is the hulk Immortalite [misspelled Imortalite in the title inscription], shown from the starboard broadside, lying in Portsmouth Harbour. The yacht [misspelled as “yatcht” in the title inscription] Royal George is alongside. The upper masts of the Immortalite have been removed and various structures built on the deck – a wooden overhang over the bows, a canvas awning, a fixed stairway down to a mooring pontoon. Various figures can be seen on the pontoon and the deck.
On the left of the image, there is a moored lighter and behind that the port stern quarter of the Royal George can be seen. On the right of the image there is a small sailing vessel labelled in pencil as the Nymph. The shoreline can be seen in the distance.
