Description

Thomas Wakeman was an English watercolourist who visited North America about 1850 and painted over forty views of cities and towns from Boston, south to Washington. He was a scene painter by profession. He died in Rome.

This is the Hay Market (renamed Victoria Square in 1860) looking up Beaver Hall Hill. The neoclassical unitarian church pictured stood for 12 years (1845–1857).
