Watercolour illustration commissioned by William Roxburgh. ROX1387.
In his 'Flora Indica', Roxburgh describes this species as an annual, erect and ramous plant, which like 'A. sowa R.', is cultivated in Bengal during the cold season for its seed. In fact the natives used the seed of this species in their betle and curries. Roxburgh also talks about some of the qualities of this seed.
