Description

A scene at the base of the foothills of Mount Taranaki, showing a simple farmhouse with a smoking chimney in the foreground right, and with a smaller outbuilding behind it. A farmer is seated in the paddock to the viewer's left of the house, amongst a number of sheep, all of which have red markings on their backsides. The house has a low, densely- wooded hill rising behind it, and beyond that, more rain-forested hills stretching towards Mount Taranaki
