Original Title
Te Kooti's sacred house at Te Whaiti called Ko Whakaari Eripi which is one of the most sacred worshipping whares in the Urewera Country. Anyone taking matches, pipes, or tobacco into this whare have them immediately confiscated if found on their person, and Te Kooti says the offence is punishable by the Atua.
Description
Shows a view of the front of the whare, with elaborately carved amo, pare and tekoteko. The name "Ko Whakaari Eripi" is painted on the sloping maihi.

The whare was abandoned because of an ill omen in the carving on the central pole (poumua) - a lizard (ngarara) was depicted upside down.
