Description

Elwes certainly visited Ulvig [Ulvik] 19 July 1853. However he made repeated visits to Vestland so the date of this picture is not certain. Robert Elwes records in his 1853 journal: "I was then sent out in a boat on the fjord to make a sketch of the house, church etc. which I soon accomplished. In the evening there was a beautiful effect as the sun got low, and gleamed through the clouds on the fjord and mountains a rainbow added to the scene."
