TWW Comment

The castle was blown up in 1672 by invading French troops of Louis XIV and has not been rebuilt. What remains is the entrance gate with two heavy round towers. This gives access to the inner courtyard of the walled forecourt. The actual castle grounds are located under the provincial road. The municipality built a new city office on the cleared castle grounds (opened in 1990) while in the old gatehouse since 2008 is a restaurant cum conference centre (https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kasteel_Montfoort)
