Description

Watercolour illustration commissioned by William Roxburgh. ROX968.
In his 'Flora Indica' Roxburgh reports that he does not know where this species is indigenous and writes: 'in Bengal, it is found in the gardens only, and is yet but twenty-five or thirty feet high; but seems to be naturally a very large tree.' He also notes that its flowering time is at the beginning of the hot season.
