Description

This sketch of Fyvie Castle, Aberdeenshire is by a 'Mr Cordiner'. The sketch shows the south front of the castle. 'Mr Cordiner' may be a reference to Charles Cordiner (1746-94), Episcopalian minister of Banff, who produced two books of drawings of buildings and landscapes of the north of Scotland in the late eighteenth century. Alternatively, it could be a reference to the lesser known Reverend James Cordiner, who was responsible for some sketches in the Hutton Collection. This sketch has no date, which makes identifying the artist more difficult.
