Description

Double portrait of a man and woman from Bukhara; single-page painting on an album folio. The man on the right kneels while presenting the lady, opposite on the left, with a flower. The bearded man wears a turban with a feather protruding, has a daggar hanging from the sash tied around his waist, and only one hand. The lady, gazing ambivelantly towards the viewer, wears a long coat over dress and pants, with hair covered by long shawl. Inscribed. Album contains 44 paintings and drawings, mostly of Persian costumes and animals with some drawings by Kaempfer. Ink and opaque watercolour on paper. Album is bound in brown leather with gold gilt decoration. Inside covers have marbled paper.
