HMS Akbar Augst 10th 1815

This watercolour is part of a set of six depicting the 'Akbar' in different weather conditions and on different dates throughout August and September of 1815. This shows the 'Akbar' on 10 August from her port-stern side. She is fully rigged, her masts pitched at an angle indicating a strong wind. The print is signed by the artist on the mount at the lower right. George Back joined the 'Akbar' as midshipman in 1814, after having been a prisoner of war from 1809. Medium includes graphite.
