Description

Two Indian soldiers on horseback, the one at left pointing to left, engaged in conversation with a soldier standing in front of them between the horses, holding a sword under his arm, pointing with his uplifted right hand; wooded area with palm trees in background at right, buildings at left; after Charles Hamilton Smith. 1815. Etching and aquatint with hand-colouring.

Inscription

Soldiers numbered below image; lettered below image with title, followed by description of the soldiers: '1. Troops of the Body Guard of the Govr. General. / 2. Private of the Bengal Regular Cavalry. / 3. Private of the Java Volunteers.', and production details: 'C.H.S. / Aquatinted by I.C. Stadler. / London Pubd. March 1st. 1815 by Colnaghi & Co,, 23 Cockspur Street.'
