Description

Portrait of Vazir Aṣaf Xán; single-page tinted drawing mounted on a detached album folio. Figure stands in profile, leaning on a staff; face lightly highlighted in flesh colour. Framed by dark blue border outlined in gold; margin decorated with motif of alternating pink and red flowering plants against neutral ground; entire folio bordered by a thin, green adhesive strip. Inscribed. Folio belongs to a series of single-page paintings and drawings of Indian rulers, all of which were once attached to the leaves of an album also housed in the British Museum collection. Ink, opaque watercolour and gold on paper.
