Sir William Edward Parry led a voyage through the Parry Channel, a waterway through the Canadian Arctic Archipelago, in 1819. The voyage took him and his crew further north than any exploration had managed before. His record was finally surpassed in 1875-1876 by Albert Hastings Markham. This location is approximate. Two dates have been suggested for this image based on the inscription and the known timeframe of the expedition.
