A watercolour drawing of woman seated on a ladderback chair at an open doorway, sewing. Beyond the doorway is a wooden fence and fields. Behind her, another open doorway with sunlight streaming in. On two sheets of paper, joined at the centre. The outlines incised with a stylus, some with a ruler, possibly for transfer. Inscribed at the bottom of the mount, possibly copied from an earlier one, 'At Sandpit Gate'.
Thomas Sandby lived at Sandpit Gate in Windsor from about 1746, where he was employed by William Augustus, Duke of Cumberland. After settling in London in 1752, Paul Sandby often visited his elder brother at Windsor and made drawings of domestic interiors.
