The watercolour depicts a red sunset over the St. Lawrence at Trois Pistoles. The parish church can be seen on the left.
Formerly the property of Alexander Napier Chinnery-Haldane, 'Gleneagles', Perthshire, Scotland (grandson of the artist).
When accessioned the work was badly soiled and had mat-burn on the left and upper edges. The mount was soiled and had glue remnants on the recto, as well as surface loss where glue was peeled off. On the verso of the mount there were two holes l.c. and l.l. and foxing over the entire surface.
The watercolour was glued down to white board.
