Description

Sultan Mahmud; single-page painting on a detached album folio. Side A: Portrait of a ruler identified as Sultan Mahmud wearing a double string of pearls and a black heron feather in his turban. A 'katar' (South Asian push dagger) rests on his sash. Innermost oval painted border followed by a wider one with gold flower-like decoration on a blue background and two more rectangular frames with further vegetal decoration. Inscribed. Side B: calligraphy. Ink, opaque watercolour and gold on paper.
