View looking S.E. from grassy field, across stone wall toward Halifax Harbour, Commissioner's House and naval yard at centre left, Dartmouth on far shore, Eastern Passage, Martello Tower on George's Island, McNabs Island, St. George's Round Church, signal mast on Halifax Citadel, and Admiralty House near right edge.

Inscription

In script on back of painting: "N. Scotia / Admiralty House - Halifax - its Harbour etc., from below. / Fort Needham 21 July 1842 for La Vista!"
