Canton was the second country residence in Chinese style that the Amsterdam merchant Reinhard Sche (e) renberg founded in Baarn in 1793, as a pendant to Villa Peking , the construction of which was completed a year earlier. The country retreat fell into disrepair towards the end of the nineteenth century and was demolished in 1910. The old Canton was replaced by a new neo-rococo style mansion.
