The Plompetoren was a tower that was part of the defenses of the city of Utrecht from the Middle Ages . When Utrecht started to grow strongly from the first half of the 19th century and the New Dutch Waterline was built near the city , a large part of the old fortifications of the city were demolished and the Plompetoren also experienced this fate in 1832.
