Under supervision of: Thomas Hamilton and David Roberts

Perspective view of a large building in the neo-Classical style dominating the composition, being the Royal High School of Edinburgh with on the summit of Calton Hill behind, the Observatory, Nelson's Monument and the (incomplete) National Monument. To left the neo-Classical rotunda of Burns' Monument with the battlemented perimeter walls of the Calton Bridewell or Jail behind. At left a distant view towards Edinburgh castle with the crown steeple of St Giles to the left and the Bank of Scotland building prominent with its dome at the head of The Mound.
