Description

A book of prints by Samuel Daniell, illustrative of southern African animals, peoples and scenery, titles and a production detail to each plate, a descriptive text prefacing every three images. 8. A view of a Tswana hut surrounded by a high wall, two women, a child and a man gathered round the cooking fire in the courtyard, the child playing with a dog and one of the women preparing food, other dwellings on the hill beyond with cattle under the shade of the trees.

Inscription: Lettered to first title page "To Lieutenant General Francis Dundas Late Lieut and Acting Governor of the Cape of Good Hope. Under Whose Patronage the Materials of the Present Work were Collected This First Part of African Scenery and Animals is Inscribed with the Greatest of Respect by His Most Obliged and Faithful Humble Servant Samuel Daniell" and to the second "To David Daivies Esq.r This Second Part of African Scenery and Animals is Most Respectfully Inscribed From a Grateful Recollection of His Long and Valuable Friendship by His Obliged and Faithful Humble Servant Samuel Daniell." and to each plate with a title and production detail
